RESDES (Repository-Driven Specification Development Suite) stands for a
collection of well-integrated applications and services that use the central
requirements repository as their backbone. It is an umbrella name for applications that have been made available during recent months.
This brief overview article is meant to identify the major components and relate them with each other.
The repository server manages the requirements repository and executes
instructions from the Evaluator's Application Suite (EAS) client
applications, the Repository Browser Web Applications, and the
Repository Web Services. The design of the repository data model has
been influenced by the Volere template.
The requirements repository stores requirements (functional requirements, non-functional requirements, business partner related requirements) organized by category. It currently contains 2,500+ requirement categories and ready-to-use requirements and is continually being updated. In addition, the repository stores structured documents, such as ready-to-use evaluation specifications.
The Evaluator's Application Suite (EAS) is an integrated suite of applications, which supports the evaluation process from creating an evaluation specification to comparing RFP responses in a spreadsheet context.
Repository Browser Web Applications run in a web browser and allow users to browse the repository online. The Evaluation Specification Browser lets users generate spreadsheets in the Microsoft Excel file format. The Requirements Package Browser lets users view the contents of Requirements Packages online.
The Repository Access Web Services make it possible for other applications to access the Requirements Repository. It can be used by requirements management software or other tools to facilitate quick and easy import of ready-to-use requirements into software requirement specifications.
In terms of functionality, RESDES does not overlap with Requirements Tools such as IBM Rational RequisitePro, Telelogic DOORS, etc.
