There are not many viable alternatives to
Knowledge-Driven Enterprise Engineering. When an organization is in
the process of shortlisting alternatives, TOGAF
(The Open Group Architecture Framework) together with ADM
(Architecture Development Method) would almost certainly make it to
the top of the list. But what other alternatives should be
considered? That certainly depends on the projected scope of
enterprise architecture. Is enterprise architecture merely regarded a
synonym of IT architecture? At the other end of the spectrum,
enterprise architecture would adopt a holistic scope and would
therefore provide a broad and aggregate view of an entire business or
government agency covering strategic aspects, organizational
structure, business processes, business policies and rules, software
and data, as well as IT infrastructure. So, the scope of enterprise
architecture within an organization must be very clear before any
cost-effectiveness calculation is performed.
