There are not many viable alternatives to Knowledge-Driven Enterprise Engineering. When an organization is in the process of shortlisting alternatives, TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) together with ADM (Architecture Development Method) would almost certainly make it to the top of the list. But what other alternatives should be considered? That certainly depends on the projected scope of enterprise architecture. Is enterprise architecture merely regarded a synonym of IT architecture? At the other end of the spectrum, enterprise architecture would adopt a holistic scope and would therefore provide a broad and aggregate view of an entire business or government agency covering strategic aspects, organizational structure, business processes, business policies and rules, software and data, as well as IT infrastructure. So, the scope of enterprise architecture within an organization must be very clear before any cost-effectiveness calculation is performed.
